Sometimes a girl just needs an apple dessert, yes? I am one such girl. I love apples and cinnamon and brown sugar all together and butter! I'm a sucker for anything apple crisp-type labelled. This apple crisp dessert whatever you want to call it was so good that I didn't get to snap a photo of the finished product all plated and pretty because it was just shoveled into our mouths faster than you can say pass me the whip cream.
What you shall need is...
For the crumb topping:
1/2 c flour
1/2 c old fashioned oats
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/3 c butter, cut into small pieces.
For the goodness you toss the apples around in:
3-4 apples, peeled and thinly sliced
3 tbsp melted butter
2 tbsp flour
1 tbsp lemon juice
3 tbsp milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 c brown sugar
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and butter in a bowl and using a fork mix together until it looks sort of crumbly. For the apple coating blend everything together and just cover your sliced apples with them. Sort of even them out in the baking sheet after they are coated and then top with the crumbs. I baked mine for 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
My kitchen smelled so good that afternoon! Partially from the crisp and partially from this:
Two apples, one orange peel, some cinnamon because I was out of sticks, a tablespoon of cloves, a tablespoon of vanilla extract and about two cups of water later.... It smells so good! I've made this one too in the past several times and I love love love it! I cannot fathom how I am out of almond extract but I was so... I made do without it.
