letty and kindergarten meet and greet

This past Tuesday morning, full of butterflies and a big ball of nerves, we took Letty to meet her new kindergarten teacher. I know that we are just a little over four weeks away from her having to return to school... but I'm already up each morning just laying in bed worrying over things I can't help worrying over. For example... if she has a question or doesn't know where to go or what to do will she ask an adult? She knows not to get in anyone else's car, right? How will she know where to go from where I drop her off to her classroom? Why does she always look around to see what her classmates are doing first before following suit? Then I start thinking if I'm this worried and anxious imagine what is going on in her little mind and then I spiral into a downward pit of despair. All before 6 am, mind you.

And so yeah, I get it. This is nothing. This is exciting and new and what an adventure! But it's my first time just like it's her first time. And I know that I'm so very lucky to be here and have her and it's amazing she's healthy and smart and getting to experience what she's experiencing. And I also know that I'm just getting started here. The bigger the kid the bigger the problems, yes, yes, I know. But sometimes I just like to wallow in these sad feelings a bit you know?

Okay so back to Tuesday. She told me she was scared. I resisted my urge to tell her she never ever ever had to go and she could just stay safe and sound inside our house and I would teach her myself.... Instead I told her I know she's nervous and it's okay to be, but that it's also so exciting! That she has a wonderful teacher and she's going to make all kinds of friends! And that I don't know what to expect either but that we would do it together. And that's how we got to stand in front of my old middle school, walking the halls, peeking in the darkened classrooms on our way to the library. Which incidentally is still the only air-conditioned room in the place. I can't wait for her elementary school to be finished! Anyways we watched a Winnie the Pooh video all about safety on the bus, and then the principal took them out on the bus. I didn't get to watch! Which I get, I mean they don't need thirty parents stopping each child to get a photo before boarding but, her first school bus ride! I missed it!
She came back quite happy with her ride and then we went out to the playground to meet her teacher and have an ice pop. She's no fool! She knows the way to her student's hearts! I've heard nothing but glowing reviews about Letty's teacher and she just seems to be a genuinely nice and sweet woman. She introduced herself and said something along the lines of your children are a treasure and it's such a joy to teach kindergartners so on and so forth. So, I like her. And she's an artist. So I really like that even more because Letty's favorite things are artsy crafty type things.
It was a nice toe dip into the kindergarten world, meeting the teacher and seeing some of her classmates. Not just for her but for me as well. I know a few of the other parents of kids in her class and that makes me feel better too. I handed in all my volunteer paperwork and I've marked my calendar with what felt like hundreds of volunteer opportunities and I'm plugged in. I'm ready. PTO mom? Coming from a general non-participator that's all sorts of ironic but yeah, I just may be.

Anything to hover around my eldest, right? Anyone know what a Room Mom is? It's a thing, apparently.

a day date with pinkblush

I'm not one to leave my kids. It takes a lot to drag me away from them in fact. We probably get a babysitter (meaning my mother or sister) maybe twice a year. It's a combination of the fact that we just really love our kids, we don't want to burden anyone with three crazies, and Matt works from home so we are very lucky in that we see each other quite often. But on last Saturday my sister offered to come over with my brother-in-law Colton and Lena and watch the kids for a few hours while we got to go out and relax. It made me anxious... but I did it. And I am so thankful for them for doing that for us!!
We went to the lovely town of Lititz and walked around a bit... We had lunch at the Appalachian Brewing Company followed by drinks at the Bulls Head. We still ate our meals and drank our drinks as though the devil himself was chasing us, but as anyone with small children knows that is a hard habit to break. It was such a nice thing though! We actually want to do it more often actually. I mean we were only gone an hour and a half and we were just sooooo relaxed! Nobody needed their butt wiped or a sippy refilled. We found ourselves sort of spacing out and just enjoying the silence and the peace... so clearly... maybe once a quarter is a good goal for a day date? What do you say Sauders? We take turns? Oh and I loved the name of the beer I got at ABC... It was a Jolly Scot. So naturally I thought of Jamie and Matt snickered at me. He loves me just the way I am, what can I say??
We need to talk about this dress though! Since having Dominic and losing all that baby weight times three I've been sort of reassessing things wardrobe wise. Things can't itch, which is really nothing new but I'm even more into softer fabrics. I like flowy things mostly because of all that extra skin I'm carrying around the midsection. I don't like cleave. No cleave. And I don't really have a favorite strapless bra. Point in fact I HATE all strapless bras and prefer sports bras. Anyways enough bra talk. I like thicker straps on the top is what I'm saying. Which means most of my dresses from my younger days no longer work for me.

Enter PinkBlush. When they contacted me to choose an item I was very literally tickled pink. I pretty much wanted one of everything and narrowing it down took hours. I finally chose this Colorblock Maxi Dress which is the best, most comfortable and flowy maxi ever. I love how soft and long it is! And that high waist and vertical color blocks do wonders to camouflage a little post-baby belly. In my opinion. I never am able to do the whole heels and maxi thing but with this one I totally could if I wanted too. Added perk.
PinkBlush has been so generous as to offer one of my reader's a $50 e-gift card so you too can enjoy their comfortable stylishness (unless you've won one of these in the past three months, then you aren't eligible, sorry!). And hey! Even if you're pregnant they have fabulous maternity dresses too! Or pieces that can transition from belly to post belly. Which the dress I chose would be perfect for, should a freaking Christmas miracle occur and a fourth Olsen child come. Don't worry mom, that ship has sailed.

things i'm loving lately...

//Since David turned four we've been letting him play up in his room alone and it's gone shockingly well. Letty has been able to play up there for awhile now but she enjoys it more now that her brother is up there as well... and Dom? Well then he gets free reign of all the play room toys so he's totally okay with it. And we have peace! What I don't love is the mess. But they clean it up normally with no fuss so.... win win.

//The Laid Back Beach Music station on Pandora. Speaking as someone who spends three to four hours each day on the back deck watching the kids swim that station makes it just perfection. And I have a newfound love for Jack Johnson (Hawaiinge, not Curious George Jack Johnson) and the Zac Brown Band. Yes!

//The lemon in my water is just making my day. If you have to drink water (which you do, see?) you might as well throw it on ice and fill it up with lemon slices! I keep a pitcher full of water and lemon with as much as I should be getting each day and then refill my lovely mason jar sippy cup throughout the day.

//The Fantastic Beasts trailer. Wow. I just love the Harry Potter world and watching this just makes me so very happy. Cannot wait!!

//This new game my brother showed me on my phone, Flow Free.... I'm hooked and whenever I find the end of the Internet I always play a few rounds. Because of the cloud it even ended up on the kid's iPads and they love it as well so I left it there for them too... Working the mind!

//I've said it before but I'll say it again these Letterfolk boards! And if you follow them on Instagram I love seeing all the creative ways people use them! I particularly enjoy when they use it in a funny and unexpected way. I mean you put a rap song on an open-faced letter board and I giggle, I just do. The formality there and yeah okay so I'm done. I just love them is all.

//Letting Letty stay up with us past her bedtime, because let's be honest she stays awake up there and plays in her bed for hours anyway... not every night, but occasionally... and we watch movies with her.  You know us and our love of the cinema. She only wants to watch big girl movies but I'm sort of running out of appropriate adult movies that don't give her bad ideas. Any suggestions? We love spending the extra time with her and she's really just such a big girl now it's a bit mind blowing! I love it. But mind. Blown.

//Chokers are back! It's a thing! I'm not even completely sure that I wore them when they were in style way back when but I probably did and I just sort of love that they are back! I also think I may be too old to be rocking that look but I still really like it. Remember the plastic braided-type ones? No. These are more my style now.

//That Pura Vida now has a monthly subscription service! I'm not one to get on board with these types of things, because you know, money... But three of my favorite bracelets coming at me each month? Sounds like a great idea to me! Now where did I plant my money tree...

//My Instagram feed these days. I just love all of the accounts I follow (as I should!)! Here are some of my newest "finds": Britt. Tahnee. Gathre. Julie. Just to name a few.

What about you all? What are some things you're loving these days?

matt watches twilight

Matt volunteered to watch Twilight with me while drinking and luckily I am a speedy typer so I was able to record all he said during the film...
Awwwwwkward. Could you imagine that with me and Letty?

Is he actually in a wheel chair in the book? Does he say "I'm still dancing" in the book??

It's Forks! Rolls the windows up!

She looks awkwardly white.

*Makes giant fart noise when Bella walks into the classroom and first sits next to Edward.*
I just have to endure it. (to which I start crying laughing for an extended period of time)

I never noticed how they put the wings behind him. (yes it makes him look like an angel) huh.

She can't put ketchup on her veggie burger because it looks like blood.

If this was like a Media movie, yo bitch! what's yo problem!

Good God their awkward. (Charlie and Bella)

You think they put her in that white see-through shirt with the black tank top underneath it and the guy's dumping water on her for no reason? (I'm eye rolling him)

I'm your lover.....

He's staring at her boobs. Take a picture pervert it'll last longer. (he's concentrating) On her HOOTERS.

I have diarrhea I have to leave. (when she comments on his eye color in the hallway)

Typical. Can't drive.

What's up with your son? Because that mofo is quick!

This movie is so awkward I love it. I really do. I feel awkward just watching it. I want to watch every movie Rob Pattinson ever made. Remember Me? My God.

Nobody's gonna believe you didn't wear make up for this scene. Especially your lipstick.

Oh no. (Bella sees Edward in her room and thinks its a dream) Giving girls good dreams since 2009!

Name placement! (Edward said Google)

God bitch watch where you *bleeping* walk!

Itty bitty titties! (poor Anna Kendrick). The director in this movie should have put a push up bra on those things. I mean in Pitch Perfect that girl plays cups on a stage and men are like aahhhhhhhhh. You could make a gif of that scene along and I would watch it on a loop for eight hours a day. (more eye rolls)

I love how everybody at that table knows they are talking about her and they just look down.

She knows. Something is up with them. She knows.

No.  They are still small.

The music in this movie is amazing.

OH! I'M BATMAN!!!!!!!!!!

Oh seat belt? He can't die!!!

The name of that restaurant is The Bloated Toad.

That is thoughtful. Thank you for being thoughtful.

Is she actually a vegetarian?

My special diet. Pulsing through your veins!

Respect this scene. I'm a shut my mouth.

I just love how that guy just looks over and happy sighs.

I dunno. The movie gets me. It does.

Oh. They touch hands. Cold as ice. Say it.

Okay fine! I was holding a glass of ice water!!!!

I love how they make the pepper spray the size of her head.

I wonder how many takes of that scene they had to do to get the name across the screen.

They are gonna go to Google again. On an Apple computer.

I love how they sneak in the word vampire like a line above.

Respect the scene. Shhhh.

The panting gets old though.

Skittles! (in response to what do we eat)

I look like a tranny in Miami with glitter on. Oh...wait for it.

Man musk.

Blinded by your peacoat. Those buttons on your coat look double breasted. Did you get your lipstick at Ulta?

This is like 50 Shades.

They end up in the grass somehow.

I wanna have your babies.

Cue music. Ray Bans. Volvo. Sex.

Oh Mercedes.. Name dropper.

God that got weird.

Find a tanning booth.

She farted. (In response to Rosalie's comment of here comes the human)

I feel like he has a wig. Carlton? This is Fresh Prince of Bel Air right?

The never sleep would be terrible.

He doesn't fly. Is this X-Men?

Apparently they are fornicating in the trees.

People are going to read this post and be like wow... I could never watch a movie with this guy. He just never shuts up.

I'm a big fan of the piano music through the whole movie though. (before kids Matt could play me Twilight music on his piano soooo.... swoon).

Gasp! It's her! (Stephenie Meyer)

I always thought that scene was cute. It's cute stalking.

Don't do it! You're gonna wanna bite her neck!

I feel like there's dogs somewhere.

She's already in her underwear? What the bleep kinda movie is this?

Rude!!!!

Well since we can't do anything let's just sit and talk to a guitar playing in the background. And here fall asleep in my armpit. My hundred year old armpit.

I'm gonna strangle you with my wig.

I hate how they filmed them like floating.

That's twice they've said that. Burn the pieces.

A damsel in distress.

I hate how they have these scenes and then in the background they have a guy in the background just wailing on a guitar.

He straight Michael Tyson'd him.

Ha tear him apart and burn the pieces.

He's gone cross-eyed.

She's got a cocaine problem. Always sniffing.

I love how they make it seems so black and white here and yet by the end of the series they are practically having a threesome.

Forever? Until somebody rips your body apart and burns it into pieces!!!!

I don't remember this part at all. (Bella trying to convince Edward to change her at prom) Gentle Jesus. Weird. Nope. You gotta wait three more movies for that.  (four, technically)

I just love how awkward they are together.

I love how they change people for Victoria. Nope.

THE END!

And okay. We are done here. Thanks for indulging me in this glimpse into Matt's wine mind. Until next time....

our weekend, including three pool days!

This weekend was full of pool days and far too much food. Another one with of lots of home time. Which is good, seeing as we head away next weekend.  To me weekends start on a Friday. Can we get on board with that? Our Friday's are pretty much a Fitz tradition that we missed out on the last few weeks due to various engagements and we were so happy to have them back! Steph and the kids came over after lunch and the kids swam and snacked and played hard. Matt did homemade pizzas for dinner, always a big hit. Afterwards we took to the backyard again for the kids to run around and just be kids. Even Dom! I'm making such strides what can I say?
Saturday morning started early for the men in my life with Dom up before 5 and David before 7. After I ran I took the bigger kids to my parent's to visit with my Grammy again while Matt and Dom napped. Around lunch time my sister and her family came over to sit with the kids while Matt and I went on a day date, more on that later of course. We then spent an afternoon on the deck and the boys slept again...followed by a dinner with Matt's brother and his family.

Sunday we did stuff around the house in the morning before yet another pool afternoon with my sister and her family (with Letty working on her equations, which is a common activity for her), followed by taco night! These long summer weekends aren't good for my waistline but they sure are good for a fun time! And we are most definitely without a shadow of a doubt getting our money's worth out of that there pool. We just love it so!

What about you? How was your weekend?

I'm linking up with Biana today, weekending legitimate style! Thanks for hosting!

kilgore falls, a second time around

Yes, we have done this hike once before, and it was our very first hike coincidentally! It was definitely something to see and experience, so why not go again? Now that our children are hiking "pros" as it were? We also got my sister-in-law and our niece Mikayla on board as well. I just love when other mothers are as crazy as I am for these adventures!

The drive down was pretty bad as Mikayla suffers from car sickness like her father before her. And believe me, when Rob got sick we all suffered. As the story goes on one of my birthdays (the one when I was finally able to pierce my ears) we were headed towards the mall and my mother told Rob to just puke out the window because she wasn't pulling over.... not realizing that the back window was open. Can you imagine? So yeah, I've been puked on by my brother in a car on my birthday on the way to get my dream of pierced ears to come true.... that's a story for you right there. Or how about the six bucks I would get paid for washing the outside of the vehicle then upon return from said road trip? Six. Whole. Dollars.

Yup.

Anyways once we arrived and Ashley cleaned her up and changed her as best she could we headed off into the woods towards the falls. The walk is quite short... the only iffy part being the walk across the creek on wet rocks, but if you wore water shoes like Ashley did it's no big thing at all. I didn't even get my feet wet though soo... score.

The kids got to splash around and run around in the water for bit, just loving the fact that I was letting them do that. Dom was his typical daredevil self. That kid just runs face first into water with abandon. It's petrifying and exhausting. After some time of this we told the kids we were going to walk up to see the top of the falls... which was okay. Not as cool as seeing it from the bottom that's for sure.

So Kilgore Falls? We came. We saw. We conquered. And we took a slightly less scenic route home that I am happy to report did not make my niece vomit. The poor thing.
