the christmas tag

I'm all about that Christmas (bout that Christmas). It is never too early to start feeling festive and thinking about the festive and just shaaaaaring the festive around. When I saw this on Milk Bubble Tea I thought yes! I shall answer the call!

Starting off with this Norman Rockwell-esque photo of my uncle, some unknown kid (possibly my mom) and my mom's dog circa 1950's.

1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?
White Christmas (watched every single year during tree ornament placement, normally with some red wine). Christmas Vacation, a hundred times over. There is even a drinking game! The Holiday. I hate Jack Black but! it's a favorite just the same.

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
This has changed throughout the years. As a child we used to exchange sibling gifts on Christmas Eve and open the rest (from my parents and of course Santa) on the day of.  Now no gifts are opened Christmas Eve. The kids get theirs first thing in the morning here and then we all go to my parents for the rest. After an enormous power breakfast.

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
Aren't they all just the best? I'm not even kidding. Literally there is only one Christmas in my entire life that wasn't a good one. But it's over now and I think it can give us all an appreciation for any other Christmases, yes? If I had to pick one single memory... I can't exactly remember the year but I know I was probably in Middle School. We went to a candlelight Christmas Eve service at my Grammy's church. It wasn't such a large church where the passing of the candles took twenty long minutes but it was juuuust large enough where when everyone was singing Silent Night it sounded just awesome. I'm still in the market for a good Christmas Eve service. Ever since then. This was before any other people entered the family. It was just us and our parents, no boyfriends, no one running off doing grown up things. In fact it might have been the last one we all spent together as a small family unit before we moved on to other things. Maybe. I tend to make things up in my mind though so I'll be needing confirmation there.
4. Favourite festive food?
Almond sugar cookies (Spritz Cookies) in the shape of candy canes. All of them. Every single time. I'll take the ones made into green circles too. If you want to save some for an event you might as well hide them from yours truly.

5. Favourite Christmas gift ?
I used to say my sister, time and time again. She was born on December 21 and she saved me from a lifetime of boy-only siblings. Then one day in 2009 around Christmas I found out I was pregnant after two years of trying so then she became the best gift ever. And I suppose now I would have to say that Dominic will be the best gift ever? My last baby? I'm one lucky girl around Christmas so let's just say we will count all three.

6. Favourite Christmas scent?
Home for the Holidays candle by Yankee Candle. I think I've had one of these beauties going every single year since I was in middle school. If not sooner. I sometimes have been known to sniff them. It's a smell that just makes me so very happy.

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
As with most things this has morphed over the years depending on where we have been living and of course with the addition of children into our lives. Nowadays we spend Christmas Eve at a party my parents throw at their house. Friends and family and friends of our family along with good food and beverages and fancy clothes. It's most fun. Now if only we could get a Santa to arrive. Dad?

8. What tops your tree?
A gold star. Always a star. Probably from some place really classy like the Dollar Tree or Walmart. But if it's not baroque, don't fix it!

9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
A horse? I'm not even sure I was an outrageous asker. I used to want every single accessory that came with Kirsten, my American Girl doll. I had every single one besides her bed. So I'm thinking that was the elusive gift. The one item that would make my collection complete... Santa why did you not heed the call?

10. What's the best part about Christmas for you? Now?
Watching my kids. The magic of Christmas is back for me because I can see it in their eyes. Seeing the trees lit up. Forming traditions from past generations with the new one. Then Christmas morning when they see the presents? Ah. It's the best. I've loved Christmas since I was a child and I love to watch them start to form the same connections. I go so very over the top the entire month of December plotting and planning and activities and crafts left and right but I just do it all for them. To make it as awesome for them as I can. And sure, I benefit because it's just all so festive.

So. Blogger or no, jump on in and be festivus with the restivus!
