spring breakers keeping it real

The year was 2005. We were just a few months shy of graduating college... Matt and I had been dating for a very short amount of time (perhaps a month) when he asked if Kerri and I wanted to join him and his friends on a cruise out of Miami. The price was right and well, I was in love (I told him I was going to marry him about two weeks into dating soo.... there's that), so we said yes. Only clincher? We would be driving. All of us. In an extended cab pick-up truck. From Manheim, PA to Miami, FL. Five of us. Two of whom were then and are now well over six feet tall. We are nothing if not punctual and so we left practically 24 hours prior to debarkation. We had hours to kill along the way and even pulled over and the guys slept in the trunk bed on top of the piles of garbage bags. That were protecting our suitcases from the rain. Class class class.

Once on board the Carnival Imagination the fun could begin in pretty much what you'd except Spring Break fashion. Our tab was ridiculous by the end of the trip. So much so I just can't even tell you. It's embarrassing. We drank raspberry margaritas until our tongues turned bright red. We danced every night at dinner. We slept on deck chairs and floated fruit in the hot tub. We met a man with a machete in Jamaica. We witnessed some of the damage caused by Katrina on Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman. We took funny pictures. We got our money's worth out of those Captain Cocktail Hours. And by money I mean not a dime because those things are free but we took full advantage. We made friends with a sweet grandmother type at our table. We got sunburned and Kerri possibly got SARS. We laughed until our sides hurt. And then we packed those suitcases right back into those garbage bags and headed on home. Cruising with a bunch of your friends with wild abandon? Yup. Pretty good times.

Ah... young love.
